Henry Miller Theater

The Roundabout Theater Company will be moving into the newly refurbished, LEED-certified Henry Miller Theater in New York sometime this fall.  The building will be incorporated into the new 54-story Bank of America Tower, which is being built to incorporate a large number of green features, thereby attaining a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.  In order to attain that rating, the Henry Miller’s original 89-year old facade will be retained as part of the new building.  (The USGBC awards a certain number of points toward a LEED rating for maintaining a portion of the original building.)

In order to garner more points toward LEED certification, the Roundabout will undoubtedly by incorporating a number of other green features into the theater.  It will be interesting to see what those features will be — will we see energy-efficient stage lighting, non-toxic audience seating, low-VOC paints, occupancy sensors for lighting?  We will post updates regarding these features as they are made public.

This will bring the total number of buildings owned or leased by the Roundabout in New York City to four.
